2020 IODE Jean Throop Book Award: Shortlist and Winner


Since 1974, IODE, the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire,  a women’s charitable organization that provides education support, community service and citizenship programs, has awarded the Jean Throop Book Award to encourage excellence in children’s literature. Originally awarded by the Municipal Chapter of Toronto IODE, the IODE Jean Throop Book Award is now funded from the IODE Toronto Legacy Fund and administered by IODE Ontario.

In March, IODE announced its shortlist for the Jean Throop Book Award. Congratulations to these picture book nominees published in 2020.

2020 IODE Jean Throop Book Award: Short list announced

Each year, IODE, the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, a charitable women's organization, gives out the Jean Throop Book Award for books published the previous year by a Canadian author and/or illustrator living in Ontario. Recently, IODE Jean Throop Book Award Selection Committee announced its short list of nominated titles.

The winning book will be announced in Hamilton on April 23rd, 2020.

2015 Violet Downey Book Award nominees of National Chapter of Canada of IODE

The National Chapter of Canada IODE (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire), a women's charitable organization, has been offering Violet Downey Book Award since 1985.  This award of $3000 is offered annually for the best English language book for children up to age 13 containing at least 500 words of text published in Canada in the previous year and selected from submitted books. 

The shortlisted books for the National Chapter of Canada 2015 Violet Downey Book Award were announced yesterday.  The five finalists are:

2014 IODE Jean Throop Book Award winners announced


Since 1974, the Municipal Chapter of Toronto IODE has presented annually the Jean Throop Book Award (with cash prize of $2000) to encourage excellence in children’s literature. IODE represents the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire and is a women’s charitable organization "dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through education support, community service and citizenship programs."



On April 26, 2014 at the IODE annual meeting in Niagara Falls, the winner of the 2014 IODE Toronto Jean Throop Book Award was presented jointly to...

The National Chapter of Canada IODE (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire), a women's charitable organization, has been offering the Violet Downey Book Award since 1985.  This award of $3000 is offered annually for the best English language book for children up to age 13 containing at least 500 words of text published in Canada in the previous year and selected from submitted books.

In March, the short list of books nominated for the  2013 Violet Downey Book Award were announced. And on May 31, the winner was announced at IODE Canada’s 113th National Annual Meeting held at the Carriage House Inn in Calgary.
