Since 1974, the Municipal Chapter of Toronto IODE has presented annually the Jean Throop Book Award
(with cash prize of $2000) to encourage excellence in children’s
literature. IODE represents the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the
Empire and is a women’s charitable organization "dedicated
to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through education
support, community service and citizenship programs."
