2014 Forest of Reading winners announced at the Festival of Trees

On Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15, 2014, the Festival of Trees was held at Toronto's Harbourfront.  Over 8000 readers participated in the events at the Festival, which focused on the awards ceremonies for the different Forest of Reading programs of the Ontario Library Association.

2014 Libris Awards' shortlists: Canadian booksellers' awards

Each year, the Canadian Booksellers Association (CBA) presented the CBA Libris Awards, twelve awards for which each has a shortlist of nominees selected and announced in the spring.  Members of the Canadian Booksellers Association submitted their ballots in April for the announcement of the winners in June.  The Canadian Booksellers Association is now part of the Retail Council of Canada, though the Libris Awards are still voted on by members of the Canadian book publishing industry.

The twelve Libris Award categories, which all include a component related to the bookselling industry, include:

• Author of the Year
• Fiction Book of the Year
• Non-Fiction Book of the Year
• Campus Bookseller of the Year
• Bookseller of the Year
• Editor of the Year
• Sales Rep of the Year (n.b. the qualifying region rotates between BC, the Prairies, Central Canada and the Atlantic provinces)
• Distributor of the Year
• Small Press Publisher of the Year
• Publisher of the Year
• Children's Picture Book of the Year
• Young Readers' Book of the Year

2014 IODE Jean Throop Book Award winners announced

Since 1974, the Municipal Chapter of Toronto IODE has presented annually the Jean Throop Book Award (with cash prize of $2000) to encourage excellence in children’s literature. IODE represents the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire and is a women’s charitable organization "dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through education support, community service and citizenship programs."

On April 26, 2014 at the IODE annual meeting in Niagara Falls, the winner of the 2014 IODE Toronto Jean Throop Book Award was presented jointly to...
