2014 IODE Violet Downey Book Award winner


The National Chapter of Canada IODE (Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire), a women's charitable organization, has been offering the Violet Downey Book Award since 1985.  This award of $5000 is offered annually for the best English language book for children up to age 13 containing at least 500 words of text published in Canada in the previous year and selected from submitted books.
In March, the short list of books nominated for the  2014 Violet Downey Book Award were announced. And on May 30, 2014 the winner was announced at IODE Canada’s 114th National Annual Meeting.

2013 LYRA Indie Novel Contest winners

2014 R. Ross Annett Award for Children's Literature: winner announced


On June 6, 2014, the winners of the Alberta Literary Awards were announced by the Writers Guild of Alberta, recognizing excellence in writing by Alberta authors.

The one award that is always about youngCanLit is the R. Ross Annett Award for Children's Literature, which alternates yearly between picture books and chapter books.  This year the nominees were chapter books.

2014 Arthur Ellis winner for Best Juvenile/Young Adult Crime Book


On the evening of June 5th (yes, already a week ago) the Arthur Ellis Awards for Excellence in Canadian Crime Writing were awarded by the Crime Writers of Canada. Awarded annually since 1984, the Arthur Ellis Awards include the following categories:

2014/2015 Red Cedar Book Award shortlists already announced


The Red Cedar Book Award (a.k.a. B.C.'s Young Readers' Choice Award) announced its award winners for 2013/2014 and have already announced the two short-lists of nominated titles for the upcoming year, though not officially launched until November.  Readers in Grades 4 through 7 will have until next spring to read the books to prepare themselves for voting in April.

2014 Hackmatack award winners announced
